Charles urges forest logging halt

Prince Charles says halting logging in the rainforest is the single best solution to climate change.

We all know the benefits of cold calling and its ability to gain new clients and take additional market share. We also understand that with such success comes a price and this price is called ???Cold Call Frustration.??? The constant rejection, the number of calls, the amount of repeat calls to the same prospect and the voicemail messages that you leave can be very mentally draining. It can consume you and strip you of your motivation. As a result, your attitude becomes affected and you turn to a pathway of negativity. If you allow cold calling to consume you then you will not last at your job very long. In this case watch out for Donald Trump because he may say you???re “FIRED!”

So what can you do to conquer these frustrations? One sure-fire way to constantly stay focused and be motivated is to listen to motivational tapes on your breaks, in your sales meetings or even in your car! These personal development or self-help types of programs are empowering tools that you can use to increase your awareness of the world around you. The contents of these programs include many ideas and concepts that are considered by many as common sense, but in reality, they are not common usage.

Example personal development topics that you could listen to include a few of the following:

Positive Thinking
Goal Setting
Attitude
Stress Management

When you make a proactive effort to ???feed your mind??? of this type of self-help information you now become more aware (meaning the information that we have learned moves from our subconscious to conscious mind) of how to handle certain obstacles that we experience in life??”and in this case it???s cold call frustration. Here a few more tips on how you may want to embrace this new idea:

Try keeping a box of motivational audio tapes and cds in your car so that you can easily listen to a variety of speakers.

Ebay is a cost-effective website that you can use to purchase these programs.

If you can get your sales team to buy into this idea you can play different tapes at each sales meeting without cutting into your department???s budget.

Incorporate what you have learned into your sales calls as a tool to reduce resistance. Your newfound enthusiasm and positive attitude have the power to alter your prospect???s state of mind. This means that you have the power to change their attitude and as a result you may end up changing their behavior–that means a new sale for you!

A few of my favorite motivational speakers include Anthony Robbins, Les Brown, Zig Ziglar and Brian Tracy.

As a final note, I have recently finished listening to Dale Carnegie???s audio book called “How To Stop Worrying And Start Living” he wrote that one???s attitude is the chief engineer of one???s life and you know what? He???s right! Motivational tapes are a great way to “reengineer your attitude” so that you quickly reduce your cold call frustration.

Hands of power

May 15th, 2008 by RognvaldsBTBlog4595

Fidgety, ink-stained and with nails bitten to the quick, Gordon Brown’s hands appear to tell us a lot about the man.

Despite popular belief it is possible to get a premium sound system with a budget. I completely understand what being on a budget can mean. I can tell you that you can get a quality sound system for under $300.

There are many things you can do to lower the price of the sound system you are wanting. First of all the competition in this area is quite big. As a result of that you will see that prices at every store will tend to be the same or a little higher so your best bet may be to look online. Look around online because that???s the only place you???re going to find the cheap system of your dreams.

Once you have found the cheapest online price, get on the phone with local stores. Many local stores feel the need to compete with online prices. As a result of your findings many stores will lower the price throwing in freebies and upping the installation fee. Once you have received a few upgrades, continue making calls and watch them compete for your business. Take into account the value of the freebies and upgrades to you. If you really have no use for the things they offer you then take the better offer on better speakers and what not. Be sure to agree with the upgrades they are giving you. Also consider the value of the upgrades they have given you and match the bargain with others.

Another truth when it comes to buying a sound system you do not have to buy the best one there is in order to get quality sound and music you can spend much less on a product just as good and get the same results. Spend your money where you think it matters the most. Sometimes you are paying for nothing more than the name on the product most others are better. I’m a big fan of Bose. I love the sound and have yet to discover a better product at lower cost. That does not mean that I wouldn???t get a different brand if the other brand was cheaper and produced more power and better sound. In fact, I have held on to my car just so I could have my sound system. A Bose sound system is not a budget grabber but it is good quality, but you can find deals for cheap that offer the same thing so don???t buy the name brand just cause its cool buy the brand that has better quality and price.

In reality, there are many discount deals you can find online and off that offer premium sound and music. You can keep looking for the cheapest or go with the best but it???s good to keep looking for what you really want because something else expensive may have caught your attention and you could have waited and had the cheaper better version of what you wanted.

Staff to be given training rights

May 15th, 2008 by RognvaldsBTBlog4595

Workers in England are to be given the right to ask employers for training, the Prime Minister has announced.

Adding a turbocharger to your car will give you one of the biggest increases in horsepower over any other engine modification. Nitrous oxide systems can rival the power performance, but not the durability and constant gains associated with a turbo system. Turbochargers can be tuned to give you any amount of boost between 0 and 24+psi of boost, depending on the size of the turbine. When you have any type of forced induction system like a turbocharger, you want to make sure that the engine is tuned to it. Below we will discuss the importance of the air fuel ratio. I will revisit this again, because premature detonation is a major cause of internal engine damage, and detonation can be caused by a very lean air fuel ratio. Turbo kits should be coupled with an ecu that is tuned to deliver more fuel than the factory settings, and the fuel delivered to the engine should be increased proportionally to the boost pressure. You also should add an air charge intercooler, which will reduce the intake charge air temperature. The air coming from the exhaust has been heated tremendously, and should be given the opportunity to cool before being re-entered into the system.

Beware of bolt on turbo kits. They in themselves are not the all in all for horsepower. You will have to match these with an intercooler and ecu to build a system that will have durability and performance. These bolt on kits are great for the experienced installers who can tune an engine correctly. The true power behind a turbo kit will be unleased with some tuning to the heads, the timing and fuel ratios, and the intake manifold. We will be discussing each of these in future post, beginning with the heads. The heads are where the power is made because they are a direct path to the combustion chamber, which is where the magic happens.

Internal combustion engines are “breathing” engines. That is to say, they draw in air and fuel for energy. This energy is realized as power when the air-fuel mixture is ignited in the combustion chamber. Afterward, the waste created by the combustion is expelled. All of this is typically accomplished in four strokes of the pistons. What a turbocharger does is to make the air-fuel mixture more combustible by fitting more air into the engine’s chambers which, in turn, creates more power and torque when the piston is forced downward by the resulting explosion. It accomplishes this task by condensing, or compressing, the air molecules so that the air the engine draws in is denser. Now, how it does that is the real story here.

A turbocharger is a way to force air into the engine. Hot exhaust gas powers the turbine wheel of the supercharger to make it rotate. That turbine wheel is connected by a shaft to a compressor wheel. As the turbine wheel spins faster and faster, it causes the compressor wheel to also spin quickly. The rotation of the compressor wheel pulls in ambient air and compresses it before pumping it into the engine’s chambers. As you may have guessed, the compressed air leaving the compressor wheel housing is very hot as a result of both compression and friction. That’s where a charge-air cooler (or “intercooler”) comes in. It reduces the temperature of the compressed air so that it is denser when it enters the chamber. The intercooler also helps to keep the temperature down in the combustion chamber. All together, the engine, turbocharger and charge-air cooler form what is known as a “charge-air system”. Some systems also include a tip turbine fan which draws air across the charge-air cooler to further reduce the temperature of the compressed air generated by the turbocharger.

The basic principal behind turbocharging is fairly simple, but a turbocharger very complex. Not only must the components within the turbocharger itself be precisely coordinated, but the turbocharger and the engine itself must also be exactly matched. If they’re not, engine inefficiency and even damage can be the results. That’s why it’s important to follow correct installation, operating and preventative maintenance procedures.

When adding a turbocharger or other forced induction system to an engine, you need to pay close attention to the air/fuel mixture ratio, as running lean can cause damaging detonation. Also pay attention to how much air the heads can efficiently flow. This is more difficult to measure or calculate, but much like the diameter of a straw can effect how much liquid it can draw, the heads will limit how much air they can flow through the system.

Stay tuned for more in depth analysis on turbocharging systems. For great Turbo Kits, visit Majestic Modifications online. To get the loudest and best sound quality from your car’s stereo system, you will need to add an amplifier to the system. As good as after market head units are, they just don’t produce enough power to give you great sound at higher volumes. Here are some tips for adding an amplifier to your car stereo system.

Amplifiers can take the signals from your head unit and give you a much more powerful, cleaner signal to power your cars speakers. When adding am amplifier, it is important to know your speakers limitations. Most factory speakers won’t do well with an amplified signal, so you will want to upgrade these as well in a lot of cases. Look for the ratings of continuous power or RMS ratings. These ratings will give you the best indication of how much power the speakers can hold. Match this rating to the amplifier rating to ensure you are getting everything out of the system, and that you will have a system that will be durable and last.

The signals the speakers receive should also be taken into account. Larger subwoofers need the frequencies on the lower end to produce the bass tones, but you wan to be sure to exclude frequencies that are above, and below, the recommended range. Too low and you risk damaging the speaker, and too high can cause some undesirable results sound wise. Most amps are quipped with a subsonic (too low of a frequency) filter to avoid the low frequencies. They also have a crossover that will eliminate the higher frequencies as well. These two components allow the speaker to get the frequencies it needs for optimum performance.

Smaller speakers should also be set up to get the frequencies they need. If amplified, these speakers almost always should have a crossover attached to ensure that big bass tones won’t damage the speakers designed for midrange response and high frequencies. Dividing the sound into low, middle and high frequencies using the different types of speakers creates a medley of tuned sound that gives the experience we want from our systems.

Pay attention to ohms and power ratings, and be sure to match all accordingly. Combining multiple speakers on one channel always affects the ohm rating of the system, and can be detrimental if the system is not designed for it. Subwoofer amplifiers tend to be more forgiving due to their low impedance (ohms) ratings and flexibility. Remember, it is the combination of power and precision that make the system sound the best.

First R Kelly trial jurors picked

May 14th, 2008 by RognvaldsBTBlog4595

The first three jurors have been chosen for R&B star R Kelly’s child pornography trial in the US city of Chicago.

I believe the first ever Doctor Who episode I ever watched must have been when I was around five or six; it was one of the old black and white episodes featuring the second doctor. I was absolutely glued to the television set from beginning to end. I just found the whole concept intriguing, the whole Tardis concept being bigger on the inside than the out, time travel, time loads, unconventional villains set in worlds totally different from our own and then you had some of the greatest villains ever created, the Daleks and the Cyber men.

For me there is no doubt in my mind that the Daleks are the best villains ever created, I just feel that other Sci-Fi villains that have been created over the years like the Borg or the Dominion from Star Trek just don???t compare when you consider just how truly evil the Daleks are. It???s that evil aspect to them that make them so powerful as characters, who can forget their shrieking voices? EXTERMINATE!!! EXTERMINATE!!!

And of cause no great series would be complete with out some great unique and different theme music and Doctor Who is no exception to this rule. The theme music in Doctor Who was one of the things that truly struck me about the whole series from the first time I heard it, different and unique are truly a understatement, it???s probable the most unique and different piece of music ever created! It also is one of the first ever electronic pieces of music ever created; most people have no idea just how hard it was to create that kind of music in those days. Unlike today where we can just use a mixer to edit where we want sounds to go, in those days the only way to do it was to physically cut up the old tapes that the sound was recorded on and then stick the tapes back together where you wanted the sounds to change. It took the team who created the theme tune months of work, working all hours to get it together! The result; a truly timeless piece, even today it doesn???t sound dated because quite simply there has never been anything like it! In the new Doctor Who series they have change the tune, adding to it some extra sounds, personally I don???t like it because the sounds added are more normal and take away from the original uniqueness of the sound.

Many people???s favorite Doctor from the old series was Tom Baker, but personally I???ve always favored John Pewee, I just loved the way he delivered his lines. I remember watching him in the sea monster episodes and countless others. Of cause there are many who say that the new and currently present Doctor for the new series; David Tennant is possibly the best ever doctor and I have to admit, he is really taking the character and flying with it! I believe he???s said before now that he was a Doctor Who fan from very young and that to play in Doctor Who is a dream come true, that definitely would make sense when you look at the way he performs.

These days as I get busier and busier, I???ve been finding it harder and harder to find the time to sit down and view an episode on television, so recently I???ve been downloading Doctor Who audio books from the internet and listening to them with my mp3 player and car stereo. It???s just great to be able to utilize my dead time with the enjoyment of a good Doctor Who episode, it helps me focus on my work and feel that much happier at the end of the day! Just recently I downloaded and listened to Doctor Who Stone Rose! It???s one of my favorite Doctor Who audio books from the new series, apart from having a great story line, it???s narrated by David Tennant him self! All in all it???s a great title.

Doctor Who audio books are also a great way to revisit some of the old episodes; some today are only available on audio book as the original television episode has been lost! All in all I find Doctor Who audio books the perfect way to enjoy the series with out taking up more of my time then I have.

McCall back for new Big Brother

May 13th, 2008 by RognvaldsBTBlog4595

Big Brother host Davina McCall will return for the ninth series of the Channel 4 reality show, it has been confirmed.

Today there is a wide range of CD players available for the consumer and choosing the right CD player can feel like an arduous task. Style, quality, design och technical solutions vary greatly between the different players. Some players are portable; others are included in larger sound systems. Some players can only handle one disc at the time; others can easily skip between 50 discs or more. Some CD players are very cheap, others are highly expensive. The list goes on and on. Regardless of which CD player you choose it will however consist of three basic parts that are found in all moderns CD players: a drive motor, a tracking device and a laser and lens system. Another thing that all CD players have in common is that they interpret data that has been stored in the form of elongated bumps on a CD (compact disc).

The drive motor in your CD player is the part that makes the disc spin round and round at a correct pace. The drive motor will gradually adjust the speed, since the correct pace depends on which part of the disc that is currently being interpreted. At some spots, the pace will be no higher than 200 rpm, while at other spots the pace needs to be increased up to 500 rpm. As the disc is rotated round and round by the drive motor, the tracking mechanism will adjust the laser assembly and make it possible for the laser and lens system to focus on the miniscule bumps where data has been stored. The laser is constantly being pushed from the centre and outward over the disc by the tracking mechanism.

The data interpreted by the laser and lens system has been stored in the form of elongated bumps on the surface of the CD. One single bump is very small and no wider than 0.5 microns. The height is greater than 125 nanometres and the length is 0.83 microns or slightly more. All these bumps are very neatly organised at the surface of the CD in the form of a 5 kilometre (3.5 miles) long spiral.

The CD itself is made up by several different layers, including a polycarbonate layer and an aluminium layer. When the laser tries to interpret data that has been stored on the CD, it will first penetrate the polycarbonate layer. The aluminium layer will then reflect the laser beam, and the light alterations will be detected by a special optoelectronic mechanism in the CD player. Since the bumps in which data has been stored reflects light in a different way compared to the areas between the bumps (commonly referred to as ???lands???), the CD player can determine exactly which parts of the disc that is made up by bumps and which parts that are not.

If a CD is scratched or injured in any other way, it can be impossible for the CD player to interpret it. Sometimes only a minor part of the data will be skipped, but larger damages can render the entire CD useless. Always store your CD???s in a protective casing to decrease the risk of scratches. When you clean your CD???s, carefully move your hand from the centre and outwards to the edge rather than just swabbing around. Scratches that occur from a radial movement tend to be less damaging than other scratches.

The information you just read about CD players can be applied to most types of optic drives and can not only help you pick out a CD player for you home but also other types of optic drives such as car CD players and car DVD players.

Adults ‘dropping out of learning’

May 13th, 2008 by RognvaldsBTBlog4595

A survey says large numbers of adults targeted by skills campaigns are dropping out of learning.

You’ve set up your online store, bought some pay-per-click advertising, but are puzzled why your site isn’t doing better in search results.

Google and the other major search engines are focusing more on quality than they ever have before. Here are the top ten things you can do to make your online store do better in the search results:

10: Remove unneeded comments: smaller pages load faster, so you want to remove all the stuff that isn’t needed in the page source. Remove all comments and blank lines to move the unique content higher to the top of the file.

9: Use www only: Did you know that search engines consider sitename.com and www.sitename.com as completely different web sites? If you are using a Linux server, you can use a file named .htaccess to force www on all your pages. This avoids duplicating your site between both versions of your domain name.

8: Use image alt tags: image ALT tags are a great place to include keywords specific to the product on the page. Be sure to use different keywords on each page of your site.

7: Create Unique TITLE tags: Be sure each page has a unique title tag, preferable the name of the product shown on the page. DO NOT include your website name in the title tag, as this increases redundancy across all your pages.

6. Use META DESCRIPTION tag: Create a short sentence or two that clearly describes the product found on the page, and include this at the META DESCRIPTION tag. This is normally used by the search engines to show what the page is about.

5. Use H1 and H2 tags: Put the most important keyword on that page in a single H1 tag, and the next most important keyword in an H2 tag. You can use CSS to make these tags appear the way you want.

4. Place content specific to the product close to the top of the file: Design your pages so the stuff that is the same on all pages (like a navigation bar) appears AFTER the unique content in the page source. Your goal is to get the unique part of the page (usually the name and description of whatever you are selling) as close to the top of the file as possible. You can use CSS to place your page elements where you want for proper display.

3. Use a site map: It is vitally important that search engine spiders can find all your pages easily. A site map is the most direct way to provide clean direct links to each page. Be sure to design it so there are no more than 100 links on a single page.

2. Use static links to product pages: If your online store is built dynamically using a database of products, use MOD REWRITE to create static URLs for all your pages. Search engine spiders will index static pages more quickly and completely that URLs with variables (? and $) in them. If your store can’t do this, do a Google search for “search engine friendly shopping cart” to find some that can.

1. Build inbound links: The single most important thing to do is to build quality links coming to your website. All other things being equal, search engines still give a lot of weight to sites that are popular, and the number of links coming in to a site is a sign of popularity.

While these tips are short by necessity, they should give you enough information to research and implement these steps.

Jim Whitesell has been designing and supporting e-commerce websites for over a decade. He is one of the most respected designers today specializing in helping small businesses sell online. He has pioneered advancements for to existing online store owners.

Wheel estate

May 12th, 2008 by RognvaldsBTBlog4595

It’s dark and cramped but with house prices so high Rosie Koska’s home is a converted Renault van.

What are Keywords? Why Do I Need Them? Keywords are words that may be used by viewers searching for information, search terms or phrases that are related to an advertisement or ad copy.

In search engine marketing the keyword or search phrase is crucial. Keywords can be a single term or keyword phases can be used which contain multiple words.

To appear on those first few pages of a search engine a website must contain a density of keywords or phrases related to the search terms used. It is an imperative part of search engine optimization for any website.

When you go to a search engine such as Google and search for something, you are using a keyword or keyword phrase. For example, if you do a search for “website design” you are using keywords for your search. The results that come up will be as follows:

The top two results are paid advertisements (a company paid for you to see their ad when you searched using those words).

The results listed over on the right are also paid advertisements

The results listed on the page underneath the top two are your natural search results. The words that you chose for your search are listed within the content of the websites and Google is showing you the most relevant results. (This is a simplified explanation, more information can be found in SEO articles.)

If you have ever tried to figure out keywords or keyword phrases, you know it can be a daunting task.

Some websites make the mistake of just listing anything and everything under the sun for their keywords. Major search engines take into account many factors. If you are listing a keyword that has no relevancy to your website and there is no copy on your website to back it up it will not be taken into consideration. Another mistake often seen is the over-use of keywords on a page. Again, if you are using a word over and over on your site, (when it isn’t needed) in order to get higher rankings - you are barking up the wrong tree. It won’t help you get any closer to the coveted “Top”.

Keyword density is key. We’ll write another blog on that subject soon.

Back to keywords and how to find them…

There are many tools out there, and even services you can enlist to help you choose your keywords. I suggest going with the freebies.

Here are three that I like to use:

1.

This is a fun tool that guesses what you’re typing and offers suggestions in real time. It also shows you the number of times the phrases were searched for. It can be useful to give you ideas of what other searches were performed using one of your keywords and inspire you to find new phrases.

Remember, it’s not just about what your keywords are, but how you use them on your site and in your advertising.

In the culture club

May 11th, 2008 by RognvaldsBTBlog4595

Each and every day, British people throw away more than a million pots of unopened yoghurt. Why?

Nature can be a rich source of inspiration for writing a child book. Here are 7 ways that you can tap into nature to uncover material for your children???s stories and unleash your creativity.

#1: Flora, Fauna and???

This is obvious, but you can use animals, or even plants, mountains, stones, rivers, etc. as characters in your story. They will probably be anthropomorphic, having the characteristics of humans. For example, a river that becomes angry and turns into raging rapids. You can use nature in this way to help your reader see things from a different perspective. For example, you could make up a story about the animal kingdom (e.g. an ant colony). You might imagine what it would be like to become an ant and see the world from that perspective. Nature may also form the setting for your story. Just remember to describe only what???s necessary to move your story forward and convey your message. Don???t get bogged down in lengthy descriptions.

#2: The Four Seasons

Not the musical group but the four seasons of winter, spring, summer and fall. These could be an integral part of your story, not just the backdrop to it. The fable of the ant and the grasshopper is a good example of how the seasons can propel a story forward and be a metaphor, too. A beautiful example of how you can use the seasons as both a metaphor and a setting is the Korean film ???Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter, and Spring Again???.

#3: Cycles

More than just the four seasons, nature is full of cycles: life and death; healing; pregnancy and birth; maturation; etc. A common theme in many children???s stories is the maturation or growth of the protagonist. The hero or heroine of the story overcomes obstacles and becomes stronger or more mature in the process.

#4: The Elements

Did you know that each element has a concept associated with it? Air = Thought, Fire = Desire, Water = Emotions, Earth = Stability. In Chinese philosophy, the elements are also linked to parts of the body. This gives you three dimensions to play around with: elements, concepts and parts of the body. The elements themselves could be anthropomorphic reflections of the different concepts and their interplay could be a metaphor for human being???s difficulties in finding balance between thought and emotion, desire and stability, etc.

#5: Astronomy

The universe or astronomy (sun, moon, planets, stars, etc.) is another possible source of inspiration. The planets can be anthropomorphic characters or can be manipulated by the characters. Characters that manipulate the planets represent a theme often found in mythology and even modern-day stories such as ???Papa, Please Get the Moon for Me???

#6: Nature???s Patterns

As we all know, nature is very complex, yet elegantly simple at the same time. Natural dynamics such as evolution and propagation could be an interesting element in your stories. You could, for example, explore how a creature has evolved over time (this could be a good sci-fi story).

On another level, there are also little truisms in nature. Remember when the giant sea monster threatening to devour the Jedi Knights in one of the Star Wars films gets swallowed whole by an even bigger monster? Qui-Gon Jinn, the Jedi, then says wryly: ???there???s always a bigger fish.???

#7: Study and Absorb Nature

If you want to really be inspired, try just sitting somewhere in nature and observing it in all its splendor. You may discover interesting (anthropomorphic) behaviors or larger patterns. You will also become more relaxed and when you???re relaxed it???s easier to be creative.

Conclusion

These are just a few ways you can get inspired by nature to make up child stories. I’m sure you’ll think of more. I think nature is particularly interesting as a source of inspiration because it is awesome and powerful, neutral (with ???pure nature??? there is no good or bad per se), beautiful and perfect. It???s pretty hard to improve upon nature.

P.S. If you record or write down any of your stories, you can send them to me and I’ll publish them on my website with your name (and copyright) on them.
